Latest News: Defend Campaign issues wake-up call to child safety risks on social media such as X
"Hypocrisy Undermines Credibility"
In an interview conducted with Grok earlier this morning, Musk's and X’s much heralded AI intelligence operation claims that his decision not to use technology that’s fully available today is “inexcusable from a technical capability standpoint…and erodes trust in both the platform and Musk himself”. “Musk positions himself as the anti-establishment truth-teller, fighting "woke" censorship and spam. But when his platform becomes a bot-infested echo chamber that silences critics via fake engagement, it proves the opposite.
Grok reaffirms that the tech already exists to readily fight the bots but that X uses it selectively. Its damning analysis also confirms it also sees “every public post, reply, and trend to stay current. That means the system can detect bot patterns: repetitive phrasing, engagement spikes, account age vs. activity, IP clustering, etc.”
Grok’s criticism even goes on to give its own Tesla-related example of seemingly double standards sanctioned by the world's wealthiest man:
“Musk claims near-AGI-level vision and decision-making from video. If a car can avoid a pothole, an AI can tell if @User123456789 is a real human or a script.
“Detecting 95%+ of bots in real time is 100% feasible with current tech. Even basic ML (machine learning) models from 2018 could do this at scale. X has far more.”
Veteran independent media professional and trained UK broadcast journalist, Jason Tanner who verified and published the interview exclusively from London says:
“This revelation by Grok that adequate technology has been around for many years will reignite scrutiny over Meta’s ability and conviction to prioritise false and harmful postings and profiles appearing on competing platforms such as Facebook, especially if Grok is claiming the technology is very much available today.
“I’ve recently come across a false advert using popular UK personal finance expert and broadcaster, Martin Lewis, who has reported these frequently. I’ve seen him exasperated and saddened at the use of his imagery in scams and he’s been at pains to let followers know that the clue in his case for such scams is simple. He NEVER advertises this way.”
Jason Tanner adds: “Meta and Elon Musk may well have something to say and so as my own additional test, I'll happily include a direct verbal or written response from now as an update and as a test of their own scanning and response technology capabilities to this invitation."
These striking revelations from Grok emerged this morning (GMT - 06/11/25) as part of ongoing global research looking at the operation and impact of social media but this standalone part was felt to be time critical. Research identification is currently protected so as not to disrupt the live process but such information will be accessible nearer completion.
In the meantime, trained journalists are verifying and reporting its highlights in different ways in specified outlets as part of additional research. A complete transcript of the interview is available by clicking here

Notes for Editors
Jason Tanner is the founder of the defend uk campaign and a news commentator when time allows. He was the last Chief Press Officer for the National Trust before a major reorganisation saw it move its London HQ to Swindon . Amongst many projects, Jason revealed to the world's media the Trust's acquisition of a rare survival of 'slum housing' in Birmingham and was part of the team that worked with Sir Anthony Hopkins in a race to save Snowdon for the nation some 20 plus years ago. When the Trust relocated, Jason headed up media relations for Dame Elisabeth Hoodless at CSV (now Volunteering Matters) and worked closely with key national journalists on a project that placed pioneering volunteers within the families of children at risk. He also headed a talented team that put volunteers squarely on the map as CSV took the lead on the Year of the Volunteer, 2005 leading to the climactic efforts of the Olympic Volunteers of 2012. He also dealt with the enormous international media attention generated when the government of the time launched its ill-fated Big Society. He started the first 5 years of his career working as a radio journalist for both BBC Southern Counties and as the Senior Broadcast Journalist at Mercury FM & Mercury Extra.
