An appeal for your time as a volunteer for the defend campaign
The defend campaign is very new. It currently has no money or staff. Cash or in kind donations would make a big difference but so would the gift of your time as a volunteer.
People can volunteer from their home in any part of the UK or the world for that matter, especially if you are on-line . We only ask that you are keen to help defend fair free speech for democracy. Wherever possible, your volunteering would be matched with your availabilty and skills and can be both home-based or in the community. You could also volunteer at 'HQ' with Jason, the founding director in London. He has a lot of campaigns, media and communications skills if you are looking to pick up some practical new work experience OR you might have skills you can offer to update him and Defend. People of any age or background will be welcomed within the bounds of safety and resources.
Volunteers will initially be needed to help with research; whether home-based, on-line or within local communities. As the campaign grows, we'll need volunteers to help host events, make links with schools and other community organisations to encourage fairer free speech in its many forms whether on line or in person, over a cup of tea or on TV. We need people who are good at admin, sending emails, checking copy and checking facts! We'll need people who feel they can get involved in raising funds or resources which would help the campaign reach goals and be an ever lasting presence in defence of free speech and democracy for future generations.
As yet, the campaign has no staff so is very much a campaign of the people. We need people who may be good at fundraising or applying for grants. We will need people who are good at writing or collating case studies and reports to strengthen the campaign's aims. We need people to make links with other organisations or key figures who feel protecting free speech and democracy is an important aspect of their wider work. We'll also need people who are good at training other volunteers and empowering communities to take action.

I'm Jason Tanner, the volunteer founder of the defend campaign and I'm based in London where I'd love to network with other volunteers in person to help generate new ideas and projects that tie with its mission. I'd like help to make links with volunteers throughout the UK.
